ARCHITECT RICK LEPLASTIER HOUSE FOR VULCAN RESTURANT CHEFS
BUILDER ROLLEY CLARKE
LEADING HAND CARPENTER RUSS DAVIS
This house designed by Rick Leplastrier was built like a well crafted boat. All the structural timber was on view meaning a lot of extra care when erecting frames. The whole house was joinery rather than carpentry. The beds were made by us to match the rest of the house. We even made the blackbutt bench to drain into the sink.
Being in Blackheath the cold was a major consideration. We built a rammed earth wall in the centre on the polished concrete floor. It was a heat sink. On a cold sunny day the skylight will be opened to let the sunlight fall on the wall. Then at night the skylight is closed and the house is heated by the warm wall.
